Oyase School Curriculum

Through games, exercises, adventures and the ancient, sacred, expressive arts; rhythm, music, movement, storytelling, drama and visual arts, students will explore the following areas according to age and desire:

  • Awareness and Observation Skills
  • inner and outer awareness skills
  • inner and outer tracking skills
  • tracking animals
  • learning about each other
  • listening skills
  • lostproofing
  • Ancient Wilderness Living Skills
  • building and using natural shelters
  • firemaking and campfire

When and Where Does Oyase Community School Meet?

OYASE meets near Brattleboro from 9AM-3PM on Thursdays begining in September and ending in June with an overnight. The children are divided into 4 groups loosely based on age. The entire group meets together for one hour in the morning and afternoon. Otherwise the children are in their smaller groups with a lead teacher and one or two assistants. As of December 2006, there are 42 students enrolled ranging in age from 7-16.

How much does Oyase Community School cost?

2005-2006 tuition is $900-$1300 sliding scale for 27 six hour sessions including one overnight session. Tuition for enrollment after June 30, 2005 is $1000-$1400. A four week trial is available for new students for $150. Highly motivated students are occasionally admitted mid-year if space is available.
