The Art of Mentoring

Creating a Living Culture of Awareness

October 15-21, 2006
Brattleboro, VT

$685

Ideas and concepts of good mentoring are crucial as we rediscover effective, natural ways of helping people develop deep connections to nature and their communities. Equally as important for people who didn't grow up surrounded by a natural mentoring culture, is the opportunity to experience it firsthand, to develop a "felt sense" of how it works. The Art of Mentoring is a week-long immersion into this culture of awareness. Adult participants come together for a week of storytelling, lectures, ceremonies, celebrations, singing, group activities, adventures, time to wander alone and reflect. There are many opportunities to participate whether coming for the first time or tenth.

Integral to this experience is a gathering of youth and families who have been intensively mentored in the arts of nature awareness from different communities around the country. For the families, teens and mentors, this is a much sought-after Rendezvous of like-minded spirits, passionately exploring the skills of living intimately with the earth, and discovering more about themselves in the process. This will alter your view of today's youth and create a possibility for the future like never before.

Over the course of the week, participants and highly experienced mentors like Jon Young, Mark Morey and Dan Gardoqui, seasoned staff and practicing Elders improvise a living cultural basket to surround and support these youth. Together we discover what it means (and how it feels) to play a part in re-establishing a healthy, vibrant culture of awareness. This experience is essential for anyone interested in bringing The Art of Mentoring to his or her own community. Many people running nature programs around the country return year after year to renew their connection to others who share the same vision, restore their hope and swap stories of lessons learned. For everyone involved, get ready for an intense week of adventure in The Art of Mentoring.

Teen Program Testimonials

"I was thrilled with The Art of Mentoring youth program, and knew my sons were in great hands...The week's poetic experiences, mixed with the more nuts and bolts activities, will give my children something that will stick with them for the rest of their life." -Hilton Purvis

"It felt great to go as an adult to our own activities while seeing the children on the sides, and to look in on their teaching without them really knowing we were there...You should definitely bring your child with you, because they will not only have an amazing experience themselves, but it will help connect your whole family afterwards." -Jill Wallace

"Instead of a week spent sitting in front of a desk with 30 minutes of recess, this week is like one long recess...I guarantee you will have a great time, and learn an immense amount of totally new things. It's definitely worth it!" -Dakoda Gallen, age 15
